(Sports) Kareem Abdul-Jabaar Finally Gets His Statue Outside the Staples Center

Kareem Abdul-Jabaar finally got his long awaited and well deserved statue outside of the Staples Center.  The NBA’s all time leading scorer, six-time NBA champion (five with the Lakers), six-time MVP, 10-time All-NBA first team and 19-time All-Star received an emotional ceremony last night as his likes joined Wayne Gretzky, Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Jerry West and Oscar De La Hoya in the Star Plaza at the home of the Lakers.  The monumental occassion came through controversy as Kareem had publicly outed the Lakers for not erecting one sooner.

(Sports) Steve Nash Out for At Least Another Week With Injury

Last week the Lakers said Steve Nash would be out for at least one more week and this week they’ve extended it to at least another week.  Nash seems to be having issues in his recovery from a non displaced leg fracture.

Nash will miss games against Houston and Brooklyn, and at Sacramento, Memphis and Dallas, before being re-evaluated once again by Dr. Steve Lombardo.

It’s the same update we received last week, and Nash admitted his frustration as he just can’t tough out an injury of that kind to get on the floor. Of course, the big picture concern for the Lakers is that Nash be fully healthy as the season goes on, so the team certainly can’t rush his return.

Nash will miss the debut of his former coach Mike D’Antoni but as they said it’s important for him to be fully healthy, especially with the type of offense D’Antoni likes to run.

Chris Paul’s son “Lil Chris” is too cute, smart and funny.  He’s truly a star in the making as he captured everyone’s heart by doing the Blake Griffin face.  At a young age he can already name the players based off their jersey numbers and can apparently beat All-Star and veteran Grant Hill in basketball.

(Sports) Video:NBA DeAndre Jordan Crazy Putback Dunk!

The Los Angeles Clippers continued their quest to take over LA as they defeated the Lakers making them 0-3 to start the season.  Chris Paul and Jamal Crawford weren’t the only ones with highlights, Clippers center DeAndre Jordan sent the crowd into a frenzy with this crazy putback dunk.  He caught the ball so high and slammed it with such force, his foot almost hit the rim.

(News) Kobe vs Smush… Again

“I tell Steve, you won MVP but I was playing with Smush Parker… He’s playing with {Leandro} Barbosa. I’m playing with Smush and Kwame {Brown}. My goodness.”

LA Times reports that after the Lakers’ exhibition game loss on Wednesday to the Portland Trail Blazers in Ontario, Kobe was more than willing to air out bad laundry of the 2004-2007 seasons; known to we Laker fans as the Dark Ages. Lakers missed the playoffs once and was twice put out in the first round of the playoffs by Steve Nash and the Suns.

Kobe goes on to say: “Smush Parker was the worst. He shouldn’t have been in the NBA, but we were too cheap to pay for a point guard. We let him walk on.”

The LA Times reporters go on to comment on how many observers criticized Bryant for not passing the ball to teammates such as Chris Mihm, Smush, Devean George and Brown.

“Smush Parker, with Tierre Brown as the backup,” said Bryant laughing. “I’m taking 45 shots a game. What was I supposed to do, pass the ball in to Chris Mihm? Chris Mihm?”

In response to these jabs, Smush has responded with stories and candid commentary.

“I’m at lost for words. It makes me blush. For my name to still come out of that man’s mouth? It makes me blush.”

Smush goes on to say that he did enjoy his time with the Lakers 2005-2007 but did NOT enjoy playing with Kobe. He describes trying to engage Kobe with conversations about football with Kobe responding (as Smush recalls): “He tells me I can’t talk to him. He tells me I need more accolades under my belt before I come talk to him. He was dead serious.” Smush sums up all the talking he and Kobe did as strictly on the court.

Smush goes on to describe scenarios where he observed Kobe isolating himself from the team and actively avoiding other teammates outside of the games and practices. He even goes on to reveal the nickname he gave his former team, “The Los Angeles Bryants.” He (Smush) asserts that the “team” is happy only if Kobe is happy.

“On road trips, he traveled with his security guards. Those were the guys he talked to. On the team plane, he sat in the back of the plane by himself.” -Smush

Smush goes on and on about how he felt slighted and apparently feels robbed of the chance to befriend Bryant. He even blames Kobe as the reason he was no longer a Laker after his second season. His reasoning? He states The reason I wasn’t a Laker after my second year is because I didn’t bow down to {Kobe}. I didn’t kiss his ass. I wasn’t kissing his feet. Quite frankly, towards the end of the second season, I stopped passing him the ball. I stopped giving him the ball. I started looking him off.”

Okay, Smush, okay. It’s obvious that Kobe is feeling himself these days having Nash, World Peace, Howard and Gasol as teammates. Looking back on the those Dark Ages in LA Laker basketball, could you blame him? Word of advice to Kobe, though; use your own rule, more talking on court than off of it. Allow the game to speak for you.
