COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – An Eastover man has been sentenced to a year and a half in federal prison for calling in a bomb threat to a school and having child pornography.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says 21-year-old Sidney Myers was also ordered Thursday to register as a sex offender.
Myers pleaded guilty in August. Prosecutors say he anonymously placed two phone calls to Columbia’s Eau Claire High School in November 2011, claiming to have placed six bombs around the school.
No bombs were found.
An FBI investigation linked the threats to Myers’ phone number. Agents say they found five videos on the phone of him engaging in sexual activity with his then-16-year-old girlfriend.
One official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way, says the man apparently had two guns.
The shooting was reported at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, in western Connecticut. State police say Newtown police called them at about 9:40 a.m. about the reports.
Newtown is in northern Fairfield County, about 45 miles southwest of Hartford and 80 miles northeast of New York City.
Eight-year-old Alexis Wasik, a third-grader at the school, said police were checking everybody inside the school before they were escorted to the firehouse.
“We had to walk with a partner,” she said.
One child leaving the school said that there was shattered glass everywhere. A police officer ran into the classroom and told them to run outside and keep going until the reach the firehouse.
Earlier reports of a second shooter are unconfirmed.

West Virginia University is the nation’s top party school, displacing Ohio University in an annual survey by Princeton Review.
It’s the third time that the West Virginia campus in Morgantown has made the top slot and the first time in five years. Last year it was ranked sixth.
The University of South Carolina ranked seventeenth.
Ohio University in Athens dropped to number three.
The rankings are in the 2013 edition of “The Best 377 Colleges,” on sale Tuesday.
There are 62 lists, based on surveys of 122,000 students during the last school year. Students answered 80 questions about academics, administration, campus life, student body and themselves.
Topping the Stone-Cold Sober Schools for the 15th straight year? Utah’s Brigham Young University.
Richland Northeast opened the 2012 football season with a 28-21 win over South Aiken on Friday at Harry Parone Stadium.
South Aiken suffered a potentially devastating injury in addition to the defeat. Quarterback Bo Baldwin, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound junior who is considered one of the top prospects in the nation, left with an injury to his right hand early in the first quarter. Baldwin suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in the fourth game last season.
Sumter High School’s 2-quarter scrimmage against Lee Central in the 31st Annual SHS/Sertoma Club Football Jamboree on Friday started with a flash: the Gamecocks’ Antonio Rembert streaking down the sideline for an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the opening play.
Less than three minutes of game clock later, there was another flash: this a bolt of lightning just beyond Memorial Stadium that caused a 30-minute delay. And while SHS went on to a 17-0 victory over the Stallions, head coach Paul Sorrells wishes his team would have been able to play without the delay.
